STEP #1: Choose an animal or invent an animal. Create a drawing (use 8x11 white paper) or sculpture of your animal. DUE TUES. MAY 17TH ( marked for completion)
STEP #2: Describe your animals habitat and how it gets the four components required for life from its habitat. What is its niche? What are the biotic and abiotic species that are found in its habitat? What type of population and community does it live in? What biomes does it live in around the world? Create a poster, write-up, drawing or diorama of your animals habitat. Using a map of the Earth (or other planet), colour all of the biomes that are inhabited by your animal. DUE FRI. MAY 20 (marked for completion, you will have 2 computer lab periods for research and to work on this assignment)
STEP #3: What trophic feeding level is your animal at? How does it get its energy? Create a food chain and a food web that includes your animal.
STEP #4: What is the pattern of population for the animal you have chosen/invented? Competition between species for habitat or a particular niche?within its own species for food, water, shelter or space? disease/health patterns?reproductive patterns.
Create a fishbone diagram using the following headings: reproductive pattern, life cycle, migration patterns, competition within species, competition with other species, community, population, and disease. (in class assignment)
STEP #5:What influence do humans have on your animal? on its habitat? What conservation methods are being used to protect your animal and /or its habitat (if any)? Create a PMI for your animal based on human impacts. P=positive impacts, M=minuses or negative impacts, and I= interactions, what is being done? (in class assignment)
STEP #6: Create a mind map with your animal as the central theme. From the center have 4 main branches (classification, niche, patterns, and effects of humans. From each of these four branches branch off at least 3 or 4 branches (for example, the niche branch should further branch off to food, water, shelter, and space). These can then branch off again if possible. Remember to use lines for your branches and colour to help identify themes and make your thoughts stand out. Use pictures or images wherever possible to complement your thoughts, they can even replace words if they are clear and get the point across. The mind map rubric that you have been given will be used to grade your mind maps. DUE June 10th
